PDQ
Service
Express Super Fast Charger
The first patented computer controlled
service bay charger designed for speed and safety. Now
the average automotive battery can be returned to service
in 20 to 40 minutes at a minimum of 80% to 90% state
of charge.
Super fast speed is made possible
by Christie's patented exclusive 80 amp constant current
control electronics which constantly monitors the battery
to assure proper charging parameters and to detect and
reject battery failure conditions which may prevent
safe charging.
Minimize charge time; Maximize customer
service; Reduce unnecessary warranties. Now you can
get the car out of your bay and back on the road in
record time.
"Good but Discharged"
The Contradiction
To most battery customers, a "good" battery
means one which can operate his vehicle. A discharged
battery will not crank the vehicle and therefore is
not "good". Your customer may insist on a
warranty replacement unless the battery can be charged
and made "good" within a short waiting period.
Service in Under an Hour
The "PDQ" is 4 to 6 times faster than conventional
battery chargers. The expected charging time with the
PDQ is 20 to 40 minutes for most batteries to reach
at least a 80 to 90% state of charge. Larger or deeply
discharged batteries will take longer.
Safe for In-Car
Charging
Computer controls assure that the "PDQ" is
safe for in-car charging with no fear of overheating,
overcharging, or vehicle or paint damage from corrosive
gases or spilled acid.
Automatic Controls
The "PDQ" is literally automatic. There are
no controls to set and no meters to monitor. Simply
connect the battery and turn on the power switch. Operation
is simple and "user friendly." When finished,
the "PDQ" will sound a horn and an indicator
light will show that the charge is complete.
Safety Performance Features
Temperature sensing assures proper regulation of hot
batteries. Reverse Polarity Protection assures against
damage to vehicle electronics. Internal failure diagnostics
monitor charger components and warn of need for service.
General:
The PDQ Service Express Battery Charger
is computer controlled for rapid battery charging speed.
The charger design is based on established
charging principles regarding the capacity of good discharged
batteries to safely accept high charge rates.
In order for the PDQ to provide high
rate charging, the charger has extensive diagnostics
to detect batteries in poor or defective condition and
to terminate or reduce charging accordingly.
With the combination of diagnostics
and high rate charging capacity, the PDQ can safely
re-charge the average automotive lead-acid battery to
85% to 90% state of charge in 20 to 40 minutes.
Operation
and Control:
When the power switch is turned on,
the charger checks for correct connections; next it
checks the battery state of charge and applies a load
to the battery. During the period following the load,
the charger looks for several battery fault conditions.
If a fault is found, the yellow "charging stopped"
light will flash and charging will not continue.
During the charging cycle, the charger
monitors the energy received by the battery, the charging
voltage and current, and the battery temperature rise.
If the charging characteristics are normal, the charger
will continue until the battery has reached a sufficient
level of charge and the green "charge complete"
light will come on.
When the yellow "charging stopped"
light comes on, the charger has stopped short of a normal
recharge, indicating that the battery should be tested
before further charging is done. In the case of very
large batteries, very cold batteries, or batteries in
a deep state of discharge, a second charge cycle may
be appropriate after testing.
